The March Brown Bag session will focus on financial well-being, health and fitness. There will be speakers, representatives and information on the following:

  • Presentation on:
    • How to protect yourself from financial fraud, scams and identity theft
    • Financial assistance programs and services for seniors to increase their financial stability
    • The Financial Empowerment Center and the Elder Financial Security Program by the City of San Antonio’s Human Services Department
  • Maintaining good cardiovascular health, including Life’s Essential 8 key measures for improving and maintaining cardiovascular health – American Heart Association
  • Stroke education, including complimentary blood pressure checks – Methodist Healthcare
  • Fitness information, including the Fitness in the Park free exercise and fitness classes program and Get Fit SA citywide fitness initiative – City of San Antonio’s Parks & Recreation Department
  • Diabetes prevention and self-management, including the ¡Por Vida! healthy restaurant eating program and ¡Viva Health! nutrition program – San Antonio Metropolitan Health District

We will have door prizes. Light snacks and water will be provided by the City of San Antonio’s Human Resources Department.

The City of San Antonio (COSA) is again offering COSA retirees free registration. To register free of charge as a COSA retiree, simply follow the instructions below:

  • Visit www.sa.gov/cm5k and click the red “Sign Up” tab to the right of the page
  • Once on the registration page, click the orange “Sign Up” tab inside of the “Community Participants” box
  • Create an account by entering your personal information and selecting the “Community Participant” box at the bottom
  • Then agree to the race waiver, and select whether or not you would like to purchase an event t-shirt for $5 each, and select the “Continue” tab
  • Enter coupon code “RECOSA10” under the “Purchase Summary” section, and click the “Apply” tab
  • You will then see the $10 discount applied at checkout to cover the registration fee
    • All subsequent registrants (non-employees) will need to be registered as “Community Participants” and will not receive a discount on their registration
