VACANCIES ON THE RECOSA BOARD
Two board members recently resigned due to other time commitments. Such vacancies are filled by board appointment and serve the remainder of their terms through 2023. Fortunately, at the September 6 board meeting, Kevin Burton, a former, experienced board member, was appointed to fill one of the vacancies and will serve as our Online Communications and Special Projects Lead. Welcome back Kevin!
We need to fill the other vacancy as soon as possible. This position- called “Membership Lead”- will be responsible for communicating with Human Resources regarding new retirees joining RECOSA and adding that information to RECOSA’s Historical Membership Excel file, the MailChimp email list, and the Gmail contact list. These are very important duties which will allow RECOSA to stay in touch with our retirees via email, telephone, and snail mail. The Membership Lead will also reconcile the three lists and coordinate with other board members to reach out to members for updated contact information. If you have experience working with spreadsheets, or would like to learn to do so, please notify us immediately by sending us an email to info.recosa@gmail.com to be considered for this board member position.
RECOSA BOARD ELECTIONS FOR 2023
Elections for five positions on the RECOSA board will be held at this fall’s Brown Bag/Annual Meeting. The RECOSA Nominating Committee will be accepting statements of interest from COSA retirees who wish to serve two-year terms on the board, 2023 & 2024. Statements of interest should include your name and contact information, background information, expressed commitment to preserve retiree benefits, and availability to attend meetings in-person and virtually. The Board now conducts much of its business online via email and text, Zoom board meetings, and WebEx meetings with the City of San Antonio. We do hope to get back to having in-person meetings.
As with most non-profit organizations, there are some helpful skill sets for board members: a balance of organizational and interpersonal skills; empathy and strong communication skills; technical and financial skills; ability to learn new things and to train others; and the ability to multi-task, be flexible, and work with limited resources. Please highlight any experiences in these areas. We are a small Board of volunteers and sometimes Board members take on various responsibilities as the needs arise.
Liz Garcia is chair of the Nominating Committee, along with David Lopez and Rebecca Waldman. Both Liz and David will be leaving the RECOSA Board at the end of 2022 and Rebecca’s term is up at the end of 2023. Therefore, we welcome new Board members as we desire that RECOSA continue to support COSA retirees as much as possible. Please email your statements of interest to the Committee via info.recosa@gmail.com as soon as possible, but no later than October 31, 2022. Please note on the email’s subject line “NOMINATING COMMITTEE 2023”.
